Glen L. Moyer
In 1976 Glen Moyer was a young
television newsman with dreams of someday working for CBS news and Walter
Cronkite. One hot air balloon flight would change all of that...
Glen Moyer, of Shreveport,
Louisiana, is a commercial balloon pilot
with 13 years piloting experience and almost 600 hours flown. He is the current
editor of Ballooning magazine for the Balloon Federation of
America. He has previously served the BFA as a member of the Board of Directors
from 1996 to 1999 during which term he served as Board Secretary,
Vice-President and Treasurer..
Moyer’s first balloon flight was
in Houston, Texas
in 1976 with pilot Bill Murtorff - this following
Moyer’s coverage of a 1976 American Bicentennial Balloon Rally held in that
same city. Three years later Moyer would take his second balloon ride in San
Antonio, Texas and another
three years later his third in Plano, Texas.
In 1983 he joined the Plano Ballooning Association and served that organization
as a director, vice-president and president. During that time he was also 4
times media director and twice vice-chairman of the Plano Balloon Festival.
In 1986 Moyer also joined the
North Texas Ballooning Association and became editor of its newsletter. At
almost the same time he became a contributor to a new publication, Balloon Life magazine. In 1987 Moyer was
named Special Reports Editor for Balloon Life and in 1989 he was named editor,
moving to Balloon Life world headquarters in Sacramento,
California. One year later he purchased his
first balloon and earned his private, then commercial pilot certificates.
After four years as editor of
Balloon Life, Moyer returned to his native Texas
in 1993 when he was named Marketing Director for balloon builder Thunder &
Colt US in Longview, TX.
In 1998 Moyer moved to Shreveport, LA
as Executive Director of the Red River Rally. In October of 2000 he was named
editor for the BFA including Ballooning magazine
and the Skylines newsletter. In
addition to his writing, Moyer is nationally known for his public address
announcing at balloon rallies. Begun in 1986, Moyer has served as the voice of
most of the nation’s largest and many of its
longest-running balloon festivals, including:

Moyer's balloons have celebrated
his Texas heritage. The first was Yellow
Rose, then Lonesome Dove and his
current balloon Coyote Moon. Moyer has flown balloons in 23 states and
England, France, Mexico and New Zealand.
