Glen L. Moyer

In 1976 Glen Moyer was a young television newsman with dreams of someday working for CBS news and Walter Cronkite. One hot air balloon flight would change all of that...

Glen Moyer, of Shreveport, Louisiana, is a commercial balloon pilot with 13 years piloting experience and almost 600 hours flown. He is the current editor of Ballooning magazine for the Balloon Federation of America. He has previously served the BFA as a member of the Board of Directors from 1996 to 1999 during which term he served as Board Secretary, Vice-President and Treasurer..

Moyer’s first balloon flight was in Houston, Texas in 1976 with pilot Bill Murtorff - this following Moyer’s coverage of a 1976 American Bicentennial Balloon Rally held in that same city. Three years later Moyer would take his second balloon ride in San Antonio, Texas and another three years later his third in Plano, Texas. In 1983 he joined the Plano Ballooning Association and served that organization as a director, vice-president and president. During that time he was also 4 times media director and twice vice-chairman of the Plano Balloon Festival.

In 1986 Moyer also joined the North Texas Ballooning Association and became editor of its newsletter. At almost the same time he became a contributor to a new publication, Balloon Life magazine. In 1987 Moyer was named Special Reports Editor for Balloon Life and in 1989 he was named editor, moving to Balloon Life world headquarters in Sacramento, California. One year later he purchased his first balloon and earned his private, then commercial pilot certificates.

After four years as editor of Balloon Life, Moyer returned to his native Texas in 1993 when he was named Marketing Director for balloon builder Thunder & Colt US in Longview, TX. In 1998 Moyer moved to Shreveport, LA as Executive Director of the Red River Rally. In October of 2000 he was named editor for the BFA including Ballooning  magazine and the Skylines newsletter. In addition to his writing, Moyer is nationally known for his public address announcing at balloon rallies.
